What We Do
Our objective is to establish a model of locally produced, peanut-butter-based, ready-to-use therapeutic food to meet the needs of malnourished pediatric and maternal populations.
Fortified Peanut Butter Supplement
A fortified peanut butter supplement (FPBS) is advantageous for addressing acute and chronic malnutrition for many reasons.
- The supplement requires no cooking and therefore no additional fuel cost.
- Packaged in individual serving containers, decreasing the risk of the child not receiving the full supplementary provision.
- A fortified peanut butter supplement is an oil-based product that limits microbial and bacterial contamination.
- The nutrient content is of higher quality than cereal based products. It contains all essential vitamins and minerals, optimal protein levels for re-feeding a severely malnourished child, and a fat-based concentrated energy source.
- It reduces hospital admittance for acute malnutrition and allows community and home-based care.
